7 Things That Will Turn Your Bathroom into a Sanctuary

If you are a mom, you know the only place in the house you might get some privacy is the bathroom.  It has a door, it usually locks and if you have a great husband he might keep the kids from beating on the door for long enough for you to enjoy a little me time.  To help create the most spa like experience possible, I came up with a list of my absolute favorite things that can turn a boring bathroom into a spa-like sanctuary.

Scented Beeswax Candles

Did you know beeswax candles purify the air? They do! And they burn longer than traditional paraffin wax candles.  These two facts alone make them a must for your bathroom sanctuary.  Clean air is peaceful air, and longer burning means you can spend as long as you want lounging in the tub.  You can try traditional beeswax candles without any scent added, or a lavender-scented candle to soothe your soul and relax your mind.

Potted Plants

Adding a natural element anywhere in your home gives a comforting quality to the room, so it makes sense to pop a small potted plant on a shelf or in an unused corner of your bathroom.  If you are worried about your “brown thumb” check out this list of hardy indoor plants that even a novice can take care of

Epsom Salt or Bath Bombs

You need to have something to add into that hot bath you have drawn yourself to make the experience truly special.  Plain Epsom salt or some scented bath bombs will surely do the trick.  Both will soothe your skin and slough off the old to expose the new while you soak and relax in the tub.

A Radio or Ipod Speaker

Let’s be real for a second shall we? Even if your husband does wrangle the kids away from the door, chances are they are still in the house somewhere – and the are probably not quiet.  For some reason, children pick the most inopportune times to through fits or watch their favorite sing-along DVDs on full blast.   A little calming music might be in order to help you block out the sound, and relax your mind.  Add a small radio or an Ipod speaker to listen to the sounds of the waves while you enjoy your quiet.

A Kindle or E-reader

My Kindle is my absolute favorite tech gadget ever invented.  It allows me to read anything, anywhere.  This includes my bathroom sanctuary.  Reading is a great way to spend a little time in a whole other world without ever leaving the comfort of your nice warm tub.  If you are like me and spend waaayyyy to much money on books, Kindle Unlimited might be the ticket for you.  $10 bucks a month and over 1 million titles to choose from.  If you would like to be an addict just like me, click the banner below to try it free for the first month.  (Just don’t say I didn’t warn you)

Giant Fluffy Bath Towels

Eventually, the water will cool, the kids will get antsy and you will have to disembark from the tub.  Wrapping yourself in a super soft giant bath towel is great for your skin.  It also has the added bonus of giving you a few more minutes of sanctuary before you open the door to the natural chaos of life.

Body Butter

Before you throw your clothes on and wade into the melee, apply some lavender scented body butter.  The lavender scent will keep you calm as you tackle the messes left while you were enjoying your spa.  I love goat milk lotions because they keep things natural and have a ton of vitamins to keep your skin soft and strong. Try this one from goatmilkstuff.com.

Creating your own personal bathroom sanctuary will give you a place to relax and unwind after a long day.  Add plants to give your room a little bit of nature, grab some bath bombs to create a scented paradise and wrap yourself in a soft cozy towel before reentering the big bad world.
