Read an Amazing Book
Books are a great inexpensive option to get you back on track to accomplish your goals. The trick is to find a book that really speaks to YOU. I have been given book recommendations and got into the book and felt no connection with the author or the material. If that happens it is okay to put the book down and try again. Not every book will speak to every person, so don’t feel like it is hopeless if the one you choose doesn’t connect with you.
Here are a few of the books that I found really inspiring. If these don’t work for you, ask friends, search the internet or just do an amazon search on your topic!
The Secret of Six-Figure Women – This book is a little outdated but had a lot of great journal exercises to help me get my brain moving again.
48 Days to Work You Love – Another inspirational down to earth book with lots of great journal exercises to get you really excited about your goals.
Attend a Workshop or Conference
This one can be a bit more pricey than a book, but a great conference can light a fire under you like nothing else. When you get in a room full of people who get excited by the same things you do amazing things can happen. I recently attended a retreat for Christian creatives and I came away so energized and excited for my upcoming year.
There are conferences and associations for everything! (There is even an association for associations!) Do a Google search for your niche or goal and you might be surprised to find a great workshop near you.
That said, these conferences are often a lot of money, do your research before you pony up the cash to attend.
- How many years has the conference been going?
- Talk to previous attendees
- Ask about speakers and events they will have at the conference
- Find out what is included (meals, lodging etc.)
Take Time Off
What? Taking time off will help me get back on track with my goals? As counterintuitive as that sounds, giving yourself permission to put it down for a week or a month can make you crave the very thing you are dreading right now.
Sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves to drive, drive, drive that we burn ourselves out. Giving yourself permission to sit out a month can reinvigorate you and put that fire back in your belly.
So grab your calendar and put a mark 30 days from now and don’t touch anything to do with your goal until that day. By the time that day gets here you will be chomping at the bit to get back into the ring.
Find an Accountability Partner
Chances are somewhere in this world there is another person who is just as stuck as you are. Find them and start inspiring each other. They don’t have to have the same goals as you do, they just have to be willing to help push you through the hard stuff and hold you accountable when you say you are going to do XYZ this week.
Having an accountability partner works because you don’t want to have to explain to someone why you didn’t get something done. It’s a little bit like having an extra conscious. Just remember you have to be there for them as well, to push and inspire and hold them accountable. Many people get invigorated just by helping
Many people get invigorated just by helping someone else out, if you are one of those people starting asking your friends, try a Facebook group or even ask around at church to see if someone else needs to regain their momentum.
Hire a Life or Business Coach
Athletes have them, CEOs have them, lots of people hire coaches to help give them a little bit of help figuring out how to get to the next step in their plan. A coach can give you an outside perspective of what you need to do next and even help you map out your next steps to achieve your goals.
Finding a coach can be a little bit tough. You want to find someone who you respect and get along with well enough not to get upset when they tell you something you don’t really want to here or ask you a tough question. Look for coaches with prospecting calls so you can interview them and they can interview you to see if you both agree you are a good fit together.
You CAN Get Back on Track
Being stuck is an awful feeling, but you can regain your momentum. A life coach, a retreat or even a good book might be all you need to sort it all out and get yourself back on track. Don’t give up on those goals just yet. You CAN do this. If you need a little help, download my goal planning workbook below!
